Galvanized Corrugated Roofing Sheets are also available in Galvalume form, which do not utilize zinc. Galvalume consists of finely ground up galvanized corrugated paperboard. A coating of powdered iron is applied over the top of the paperboard to form a protective, non-porous, durable layer over the corrugated paperboard. This coating can protect against the elements, but does not provide any additional protection from rusting and corrosion.
The important thing to remember when purchasing a Galvalume coating is that the specific thickness required will depend upon the thickness of your roof. Generally, a Galvalume coated material will require an extra layer of zinc for better weather protection and overall durability. If you do not have an exact tolerance measurement, it may be a good idea to consult a professional roofer. However, if you have an accurate tolerance measurement, it may be worthwhile to purchase a galvanized Galvalume sheet with a slightly higher thickness to ensure durability against the elements.
